Privacy on timtheys.com
This site sets no cookies and doesn't track you. Here is every outside service a visit can reach, and when.
Who is responsible
This is the personal portfolio of Tim Theys, who is responsible for the personal data handled through it. For any question about your data, or to use any of the rights below, email Tim.
Visiting the site
This site sets no cookies and has no analytics or advertising. Its fonts and images come from the site itself.
The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. Like any web host, GitHub sees your IP address when your browser asks for a page, and logs it for security purposes. Tim has no access to those logs.
The AI assistant
The chat button in the corner opens an AI assistant that answers questions about Tim's work. It runs on Botpress, and nothing of it loads until you press the button: before that, your browser doesn't contact Botpress at all.
Once you open the chat, Botpress receives your IP address and the messages you write, and produces the replies with an AI language model. It stores the conversation on servers in the United States, under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (see Botpress's privacy statement). The conversations end up in Tim's Botpress account, where he can read them to see what visitors ask and to improve the assistant. They aren't used for anything else, and you can ask for yours to be deleted.
Opening the chat starts a conversation. Botpress keeps an identifier for you and for that conversation in your browser's own storage, so the chat carries on from page to page and on your next visit. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes them. The chat window also loads its typeface from Google Fonts, which gives Google your IP address (see Google's privacy policy).
Please don't share anything sensitive in the chat, such as health or financial details.
Videos and prototypes
The demo video on the ASTRA case study is hosted on YouTube. Until you press play, the page shows a picture of the video stored on this site. Pressing play loads YouTube's player in its privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), which gives Google your IP address.
The SolidLab case study includes an interactive prototype hosted on Figma. It loads as you scroll down to it, which gives Figma your IP address, and Figma may store data of its own in your browser (see Figma's privacy policy).
Emailing Tim
If you email Tim, he gets your email address and whatever you write, and uses them only to reply. Emails are kept for as long as the conversation is useful, and deleted on request.
On what basis
Under the GDPR, this data is handled on the basis of legitimate interest (article 6(1)(f)): answering the questions you ask, through the chat or by email, and keeping the site secure.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal data held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to its use, or to receive a copy of it. Email Tim and you'll get an answer within a month.
If you think your data is being handled wrongly, you can complain to the Belgian Data Protection Authority, or to the data protection authority where you live.
